Some sketches

Some sketches I've produced recently. I discovered I really like sketching with pigment liner pens. It's quite hard and frustrating at first, but that has made me more confident about the marks I was leaving on paper.

Cold Desert

Winter is among us so it was time for a winter painting. It started off as a study of a "Horse Whisperer" screenshot and later developed into...this.

I really wanted to practise digital painting, just to try and add something to my portfolio.

Also, i've managed to do a recording of the painting process without having my computer dying. YAY!

A 30 sec animation line test i presented last week for my graduation film pitch. Also, my first "serious" animation i've done in TVPaint. I feel like i'm starting to get hold of it.

So, i kind of wanted to get away from uni projects and went for something different. Also, a dear friend of mine helped me going through an awful situation once again, and despite how distant we are, she keeps demonstrating me she'll be always there for me. She loves Edgar Allan Poe's work, so this is for her.

Beware of the Kelpie!

I've presented a re-adaptation of the Scottish/Irish folktale, the Kelpie, as a possible idea for my graduation film. For people not familiar with it, the kelpie is a water spirit who shapes into a horse to attract his victims and drown them. It either invites naive people to ride him, or pretends to be a horse drowning. 

Apparently it's quite a popular choice as an animation idea, so I eventually had to go for something else.

These were some experiments for the animation style and the character designs.

Shetland Ponies!

Some sketches and concepts for a pony character. I wanted to present it as one of the ideas for my final major film.

Cypress Commission

Commission for a friend of mine. This is Cypress, her Siberian Rasta Husky character. Someone you really don't want to mess with!

Pyrenean Mountain Dog

Again, sorry for the lack of good backgrounds. I got a comment from my mother when i was drawing this. She said she thought it was a seal. That made my day.

Darth Moriarty

 

This is the stray cat that walks around my house, pretending he’s leaving with me and my house mates. We call him Darth Moriarty, and recently brought us a nice flea infestation.

Finally, it's done! The more i look at it the more i notice all the mistakes i've done. I've learned a little bit more about compositing in After Effects, which is actually pretty funny if you have a computer which doesn't crash so often. I'm quite happy i decided to experiment a little bit with the medium, instead of going for the classical animation film look.

Evergreen Valley: Presentation Storyboard

These are all my frames for the presentation storyboard. I eventually went for a hand painted style, which set me a lot of challenges, but made me more confident with my idea.

A black bear witnesses the destruction of his home and runs away terrified. When he comes back, the fertile land has been replaced by a wasteland, and he seems to be the only alive being left.

Evergreen Valley: Concepts

Few concepts i did for my second film project. I've really struggled to find a simple but effective storyline and a nice visual style. The film is about deforestation and destruction of natural habitat.

Irish Terrier

 Irish Terrier doodle. I love drawing dogs, so i'm trying to use it to build up a more personal drawing style, so expect a lot of experimentations!

Animal watercolours

So, i have an idea for an animated film, featuring a bear and possibly a deer. I was not really familiar with bear anatomy and i wanted to experiment a little bit to find a drawing style that would have appealed to me, so i did some photographs studies.

This was supposed to be a character in my animation project, but then the plot has changed massively and there was just no place left for this little guy. He'll still have a place on this blog.

Dog sketches and studies

I love drawing canines. I felt a bit frustrated because of lack of ideas for my second semester film project so i sketched something else instead. Greyhounds can be pretty weird at times....

The Encounter: final film

 And here it is. I'm not too satisfied with it, but at least i've learnt quite a lot about time management when it comes to planning out the whole production.
Also, i've come to hate the basic Photoshop brushes, so i'll guess i'll use some costum ones next time.
